INTERVIEW ON FAMILY ROOTS

Conduct an interview with family members or guardians to get an idea of your family history. Try to find information about immigration to the United States if possible. If no information can be found go as far back as you can.

Some things to think about:

Who immigrated or moved (if not from a different country)?
What happened or why? (Push or Pull factors)
Where did they emigrate from or move from (if in the states).
When did they move or immigrate (Years or time period)?
Anything else!?

Remember this does not need to be formal! We want ideas, quotes, family/guardian information and HISTORY! Bullet points are fine.

You will need this by next week. Have a great weekend!

Email Ms. Snyder with questions until I have my website up and running.

MORE STUDY GUIDES FOR FINAL

* Reminder: You will have to study all of the 20 terms compiled for your class because you will not know which ten I will select.

Below is a list of ways to determine significance of terms:

  1. The term had some specific impact on all of society or groups within society.
  2. Impact means that the term changed things or even prevented change.
  3. Impact could mean that the term caused conflict.
  4. Impact could mean that the term solved certain problems.

Do’s and Dont’s

  • Do not simply restate the definition of the term
  • Do add additional information to explain the significance

3.  You may bring in a 3X5 card with detailed evidence you will be using in the essay.  You may only use one side of the card.  Do not write out paragraphs because if you do  you will not be able to use the card during the test.

The following is the structure of the essay you will be writing:

Introduction:

*  Thesis or main idea
*  Identification of the arguments you will use to develop your thesis/main idea

Body Paragraphs 1-3

*  Topic sentence that focuses the rest of the paragraph
*  Evidence that develops the topic sentence
*  Explanation (evidence) that shows why or how the evidence supports or develops the topic sentence

Conclusion

*  Restate the thesis/main idea
*  Explain the importance of your essay.  One way of thinking about this is to explain the relevance of your essay or why the ideas you present are important.
